DISH Network remote controls do a lot more than just change the channels on your TV. Here's an overview of what they do and where you can get them free.

DISH Network Remote Control Functions

Here are the major functions the remote can perform:

Control other devices - In addition to controlling your satellite TV receiver, the remote can also control your TV, your DVD player, and your VCR.

Record programs - You can digitally record up to 350 hours of programs with the push of a button. Record the program you're watching by pushing the "Record" button, or record an upcoming program by highlighting it on the on-screen menu and pushing the "DVR" button to record it.

Your recorded programs are all stored on your receiver's hard drive. All you have to do to view a program is to go to the "My Recordings" menu where you'll see a list of all your programs, then highlight and play the program you want to see.

It's so much easier than trying to program a VCR, or trying to find a particular program on a video cassette. Just highlight, click, and you're in business.

Pause, rewind, and play live TV - Here's a feature I absolutely love. Let's say you're watching your favorite show and the phone rings, or you get the sudden urge for a soda. All you have to do is press the pause button to pause your show, take your phone call or get your soda, then press the play button to resume watching it. So easy. So convenient.

Or lets say you got distracted and missed part of the show you're watching. Just press the rewind button to go to the part you missed and press play to play it again. It's also great for replays of sports programs.

Find a program - DISH Network has more than 35O channels, so finding a particular program can be like finding a needle in a haystack. But the remote makes finding a program easy. You can do a search for a particular program by title, by keyword, or by one of the actor's names by pressing the "Search" button.

See what's on TV - In order to find a program among the hundreds of DISH Network channels, you can press "Guide" to get a list of channels that shows what's on and when it's on. If you highlight a program and press the "Info" button you'll get a summary of that program, so you can decide if you want to watch it. This is a real time saver.

Re-size the picture - If you have a standard-size TV and something is broadcast in widescreen format, you get big black bands at the top and bottom of your picture. With the format control you can resize the picture to make it bigger and fill the screen.

In addition to all the functions mentioned above, DISH Network remotes have the usual "On/Off," "Volume," and channel buttons, plus a few other buttons for fine-tuning your viewing experience.
